| 6/26/2008 - S&S Cycle 50th Anniversary Celebration |
|
On June 26-29, 2008, 50 of
the best-known custom bike builders in the world will come together in La Crosse, WI, to support the S&S 50th Anniversary celebration. And
while everyone will be there to support S&S, of course every builder will vie for the $50,000 Grand Prize in the bike show.
The build competition will feature bikes utilizing six different
S&S engines: P-Series, SH-Series, V-Series, SB-Series, T-Series and the
X-Wedge, built into whatever style machine the builder wants to create. The rules
are simple—build a bike with the goal of winning, but it must have a visible
S&S logo somewhere in its construction and the bike must participate in the
commemorative ride from the S&S facility in La Crosse to the S&S Viola
location and back—there will be no “coffee table choppers” in this build.
Judging will be done by the builders themselves, key media members,
S&S personnel, show attendees and Internet voters. Each engine category
winner will receive the cost of their engine back; the People’s Choice
winner will receive a brand new X-Wedge engine.
The engines used in this historic event will bear serial numbers from
1958 to 2008 as a tribute to the 50 years of S&S. The 51st
engine, serial number 2008, will be used in a special S&S project to be
revealed later. The builders and future owners of these engines/motorcycles
will receive a certificate and medallion commemorating the historic pedigree of
their specific serial number.
The builders will come from Australia,
Belgium, Canada, England,
France, Germany, Italy,
Great Britain, Holland, Japan,
Netherlands, New Zealand
Sweden and the United States. To help the builders on this project, many members of the
motorcycle industry will offer discounts or provide parts at
no charge, including Baker, Chopper Guys, Daytec, Frame Lock, Independent Cycle, JayBrake,
Metzeler, Mobil 1, Ness, Paughco, Performance Machine, Pingel, Primo Belt Drives,
Rolling Thunder, S&S Cycle and Works Performance.
With a field this large, and the La Crosse area jumping in to host a three-day festival to support the event, the S&S 50th Anniversary Celebration
is a weekend not to be missed. More information, a schedule of events and hotel and
campground information can be found at www.sscycle50th.com
and additional information about the area can be found at www.explorelacrosse.com.
